Otocinclus Chicharra?

Post by bekateen »

Hey all,

Ruineman's USA has some otos for sale as "Otocinclus Chicharra." Oddly, they are listed on the Corydoras page of their website (here)... And more oddly, if you click on the link, you get a generic photo of a tetra.

On PlanetCatfish, somebody asked about these once before in an old post (here), and yet nothing was resolved even then.

I can't find anything on this name anywhere on the internet (other than the fact that the name exists on wholesaler lists), and the Ruineman's website provides no photos. Does anyone what this would be?

Thanks, Eric

No idea, sorry. Chicharra is a chirpy bug like a grasshopper, no?

Yes, similar. A cicada, I believe.

Cheers, Eric

So these Otos stay in the substrate for 17 years and then emerge? Do I have that right? Cool! 😀

Yes, that's about it... A fish we never see. Reminds me of all my plecos! :-D

Actually, Ruineman's replied to my inquiry with this photo. Looks like , maybe a mix of species.

Cheers,
Eric
