Any idea if what this little fellow is? Sold as an L199 but I was told it was a wood eater, the L199 page says it is actually a carnivore. Need to know what to feed this feisty little guy (fights like crazy with one of my large older SA Bumblebee cats over a cave that is plenty big enough for both of them). Thanks ☺

I thought maybe it was an L204? Those are wood eaters so I thought maybe it had been mislabled.

Definitely not an L204. They have a different shape and MUCH thinner yeller bands.
I'd go with L199 and whoever told you it was just a wood eater is mistaken.
Beautiful fish!

Hi jodilynn,

Yeah, definitely not , but I'm not sure it's either.

I'd like to see photos of it in a tank, out of the bag. In particular it would help to see tail shape and to get a clearer view of head shape.

None the less, that's a beautiful pleco.

Cheers, Eric

Looks like L199 juvenile. Most will develop a more abstract pattern after they've matured, but not always. I am fairly confident of the ID though.

Thank you.

I do apologize he is in a heavily planted 40 gallon cube tank with lots of caves so I very rarely see him(or her), so the likelihood of better pictures is probably not good.

Just concerned about feeding. I really thought he was working on the driftwood, as it seems to have been "worked on) and I have seen the pleco on it. Obviously wood is the easiest to feed!

You should buy some pleco wafers/tabs and drop 1-2 in every evening. depending on how many other fishes are in there stealing his food, 1 might be enough.

It looks a lot like what used to be sold as L270?

His body shape is reminiscent of L270 but the stripes are definitely yellow.
I go a good look at him tonight, he looks like he is eating ok and seemed fiesty. So he must be eating well!

Two lousy pics of him/her. Hard to get any pics truthfully! Just happened to catch it with my unamused Zamoras.

Hi

I'd go for a nicely coloured L 333, the head profile is different in H. furunculus and the relation of eye size and head doesn't really match either.

Poor little guy is actually missing his left eye. Which is why I took him. Figured he (or she) would have a good life with me. It is a very striking little fish.
