The mystery of 2 dead Gold Nuggets. L205 guilty???????

Post by batho »

Don't know if anybody remembers but i had 2 Gold Nuggets (1 b4 Christmas and 1 after). Bot died within weeks of purchase. As discussed previously, everything seemed fine and then they just turned white and died.
In the same tank i had an L205 who is very healthy and active.
I have since purchased an LDA33 and saw the L205 attacking him last night (chasing and head butting). This happened as soon as the lights were out.
I am now wondering if the others died of being harrassed by this very aggresive L205.
Does anybody have any experience of this? I was told these beautiful fish were compatible.
Tank size: 48"x12"x15".
L205: 2.5"
LDA33: 2"
Plenty of hiding places including wood, pipes, plants etc.
Any views b4 i lose the LDA33 (he looks OK today, feeding and pooping like a trooper!).

Do you feed your plecos after lights off? My plecos (i have 1 L205) only show aggression during feeding time..

Thanx Polkadot,

LDA33 feeds anytime (day or night) but L205 only comes out when lights are out.

Adding a few more pipes tomorrow night (trying half pipes with small pebbles stuck on with silicon).

Can i use normal silicon or does it need to be aquarium silicon?

Just use 100% silicone, make sure that it has no additives such as fungacide.

Yap, its good to use only aquarium silicone for they're tested to be safe with your fishes...

Hi!

Well if this is happening during night time it is because pl*co are usually nocturnal fish.
Usually these fish are rather territorial and each one has its own territory.
What you should do when introducing a new pl*co in your tank, should be to change the setup to distrub the dominant one ( the one in there for a longer time in this case). I would also recommand to add not only one but 2-3 more mid size this should spread the aggressivness of the dominant pl*co on several fish and not just only one!
Cheers

If you can find it, cyanoacrylate glue would be a better choice than silicone for building caves, simpley because it is much stronger. This is esp. important if your dealing with large/strong fish.
