Vundu!

Post by BraveHeartCalif »

Anyone able to verify if this is indeed the Heterobranchus Longifilis ?
Note: There is a missing chunk of fin missing on the top fin.

Well, it is a Heterobranchus, but difficult to be sure beyond that.

What are the names of the possible Heterobranchus sp, could it be?

I only know of two that look like this. Bidorsalis and Longifilis.

Bidorsalis often has a black spot near gill as shown in this pic.

There is also but it has a limited known range.

Where was it imported from, mind you the two you already mentioned cover large distributions.

PM me your email, I can send you something...

I don't think it is the longifilis as the head is fairly small. Here you can see a picture of a Heterobranchus longifilis (here it is crossed with a Clarias gariepinus

Its wild caught so its not cross. I did look at the longifilis x gariepinus link you posted. The adipose on the cross isn't at the same with what I have. The adipose on the cross is very short relative to the body length and dorsal fin. The H. Bidorsalis has the smallest adipose but interesting pic though, 100% this is not a aquacultured cat and the adipose on my cat 3x in length as the one in the link pic of the cross.

Here is a picture of the hybrid your suggesting. As you can see from the picture this longifilis x gariepinus hybrid has a much different (smaller) adipose.
