It can help to quote the species like this (shown with spaces to illustrate the syntax, then without spaces as a link):

I don't know, I've never actually seen one do this and I've seen many of them and I've seen adults.

As Jools said i 've personally never seen one displaying this characteristic from more than 200 adult fish imported to greece (for a specific lfs) from 2004 to 2006 from Peru.

I've also seen a fair few good sized adults that have been well-established but not seen it on this species
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

That is why I am asking. It is great to have catalogues, but nothing replaces consultation with people. By the way, here on planet catfish it also says there are odontodes on. The back of bola plec.

In short, the only way to sex them is the head is wider on the mail

Hi,

I´m gonna have to go with the info in the eLog..
It is nowhere near as much (long) as an adult, well conditioned Peckoltia sp. "L 80", but Peckoltichthys bachi males do indeed grow odontodes on their caudal peduncles. It seems, however, that they only do that when they are well conditioned AND it is their spawning period. Which is, from my limited observations so far (two winters), during our fall and winter time, and the odontodes are all gone by now, so unfortunately I can´t provide a picture as proof..
Best way for sexing definately is head shape, which works year-round.

Cheers, Sandor

Hi,

I´ll have to admit that I´m a little surprised I actually did remember my camera (or, more precisely, the request here), but nevertheless..

Image
One adult, nuptial Peckoltichthys bachi.
Started to grow the odontodes some 3-4 weeks back. They might still grow a little longer, but I figured this is sufficient to proof that they indeed grow odontodes when in breeding mood.. :) In fact, I was surprised how many there were and how long they are, being almost transparent, they are hard to make out without the proper lighting.

Next step is to feed the female gravid..

Cheers,
Sandor

P.S.: Picture free for use in the cat-elog, of course.
