1st L185 Pseudacanthicus Spawn

Post by PseudaSmart »

While planning an order from Brazil last year I saw the L185s were available. Searching the web showed little information and the photos were not very inspiring. From a research point of view, these would be still be important to add to my Pseuda DNA project. When the 4 arrived they were in fact very plain. They did however show some interesting patterns when a flash was used to take photos.

The parents

The eggs after they were kicked out of the cave and abandoned. I had to raise the eggs and had many hard lessons.

The fry I managed to save. They are 15mm SL and 18mm TL

I will add more details in the breeding report soon. They are still rather plain but act differently then the other pseudas I have spawned. All photos were taken without a flash.

Everyone thank you for the support! Being able to share success helps to get thru the dry spells.

My limited experience working with Pseuda eggs has always turned out bad using air. Once the egg mass starts to break apart things go bad quickly. I think I have found a few tricks to successfully raise them with minimal loss and keep the fungus in check. I will try to put together a presentation and put iron YouTube.

I picked up an adult pair of L375s today (on loan). After some TLC we will give these a go as well.

Great effort with your latest success. Hopefully, the male will brood the eggs next time, so much easier if he can do the hard part for you! Thanks again for your advice on raising my babies.

Thanks everyone. They are continuing to grow slowly. The group is down to 5 as one went AWOL from my fry keeper into the main tank. It is difficult not to over feed with only 5!

My plan is to take them to the convention. They should be 2-3" by then.
