As the title says, is this Synodontis acanthomias a hybrid or something else completely?

It is not acanthomias. It looks like a hybrid to me.

As posted above this is a hybrid that looks to have Eupterus as one parent - the body is too short & deep & the gray is too 'light & shiny'
