B.bagarius
Bagarius bagarius
Hello everyone. This is my first post and my first day as a member. I've searched nearly everywhere looking to obtain a B. bagarius (dwarf goonch). I'm hoping that someone here will be able to tell me something other than the typical answer I've gotten which is how rare they are. Any leads or sources are greatly appreciated.

Re: Bagarius bagarius
Welcome to PlanetCatfish. I've been casually looking for Bagarius bagarius for about 5 years with no luck. I've seen Bagarius yarrelli a couple of times but never the dwarf goonch.

Welcome to the Planet!
Sorry, cannot answer your question of where to buy one (other than say Wes Wong of Rare Fish - give him a buzz - he can get any (rare) fish at the most reasonable price possible) but thought I'd ask: Are you proficient in ID-ing the various species of Bagarius genus?
Take a look at this: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... y+bagarius
Also, these may be helpful (and you can certainly ask those folks how they got theirs):

Re: B.bagarius
That was very helpful indeed thank you for taking the time to help me with that. It seems that I'm going to have to luck out on this or buy a specimen that is a year or two old to be positive it is in fact what I'm looking for.

Re: B.bagarius
If Wes was bringing me a dwarf goonch, I'd trust him. Sure anyone can be wrong, but Wes is known to be quite strong in correct ID-ing and stands behind his fish and their ID. He is one of the most reputable fish vendors.
The complication is that the science of taxonomy has not caught up with all the Bagarius species yet, AFAI understand.

Re: B.bagarius
So you would say this guy is 100% legit and can be trusted. The payment method seems iffy.

Re: B.bagarius
100% is a tall order but yes, he is legit and can be most certainly trusted. He does not appear to run a store or have employees. Wes is just a hobbyist like you and I but he has connections and brings fish in for people and enjoys it. It does not appear to be his (main) source of income or so he states.
I have never bought from him yet but exchanged emails and I plan to buy (when I open my DIY Public Aquarium for business) and I've heard from so many people who did and do buy from him. Suffice to say I'd buy fish from him today without any apprehensions.

Re: B.bagarius
Great! Hope you stick around and make a grow-out thread on your fish. Bagarius can be quite sensitive in transport, being prepared and doing your research is highly advisable. It appears, most of their deaths occur in transport and during acclimatization.
Unblinded, will you pursue this avenue?
EDIT: Looks like you are one step ahead of me http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 33#p267949

Re: B.bagarius
How did your fish come in? I have done many orders with Wes and have never been disappointed. Did you get a Bagarius yarelli or Bagarius bagarius from him? I know he brought in the yarelli recently but don't recall him bringing in b. bagarius.
Re: B.bagarius
It is not a Yarelli. The genus is so messed up from talking to people there may not really be a dwarf species. The so called dwarfs may actually be rutilus. But either way I was not disappointed and I definitely would say Wes is a very respectable business man and I highly recommend him.
