Welcome to the Planet!

I think yours is the same fish as the one in this recent thread http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 13&t=38098

See if the IDs suggested there are helpful. It looks to me likely that it is an Iheringichthys labrosus.

Thanks for the welcome. I checked some of those Id threads but not much help for a newbie catfish guy like me. LOL The only problem with an ID of Iheringichthys labrosus is that it comes from the Paraná River basin and this cat supposedly came out of peru somewhere, but then again I guess suppliers aren't limited to collecting in just their surrounding area.

Hard to tell from the pic but it was low level lighting and just a camera phone but this guys eyes aren't like that of a Iheringichthys labrosus.

I am going to check back and see if it has tail streamers or not. This fish also has barbells about 8" long.

Well here is some more info. It is not growing very fast and the cat has a deep fork in the tail with about an inch extension on the upper fork. The upper fork extends past the lower fork as well. No streamers! The cat is only about 5" long but has barbells that are at least 8" + long.

Nice, Rayman! How much has it grown in the 4 months you have had it? Describe the extensions and the length again, please, if anything changed?

Sorry we have not firmed up the ID yet.

Anyone? Please help. Or ask for different pics...

It has an extension on just the top tail fin. It has grown about an inch in the last 4 months.
