Post by olway »

I realise that this question may have been asked LOADS of times before but there doesn't seem to be any answer in the elog.
Can anyone give me an idea of just how big my L177 will get!

the 14 inches is for a standard gold nugget pleco, L18. That's a totally different species than L177, which attains, according to that post, a max size of 6 inches.

Thanks Allen for the clarification but a L177 isn't a gold nugget then?

actually, it is, as well as at least one other, and possibly 2 or 3 others. ;) there are 4 L# designated to "gold nugget" plecos, L177 is the smallest and probably most attractive of the group. http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/2000-12.htm will explain it better than I can.

I've had my L177 for 6 months and he's never grown from 3 inches.

Graeme, I had one that I bought at about an inch that grew very slowly over about a year to about 2 inches, then I moved less than 6 months ago and for some reason in the same tank he's reached nearly 3.5 inches... it's bizzare, he keeps growing very quickly.
