L022 and Ancistrus in the same tank
L022 and Ancistrus in the same tank
Hey, i got myself 2 L022 and they are currently living toghter in the same tank, it can't hold both of them so ill have to move one of them to the other tank. I read you can't have these catfish with other bottom dwellers since they'll kill the others for space and food, i wonder how much of this is true? i got some ancistrus, i'd like to keep but if they can't live with the L022 without getting killed i have to get rid of my L022 catfish even though i love them.
I need an answer pretty fast since my L022 are fighting a bit when i'm not next to the tank to scare them back into their caves. ill never take anything over my ancistrus before the ones i got are dead ( first fish i ever got and the first to lay eggs so i can't get rid of these)
the tanks is on 160 cm x 55 cm x 40 cm (length/width/depth)

Properly fed and housed fish should be able to coexist, but it's really going to depend on the individuals, the decor, the temperature, and your feed and maintenance schedule. This is really not going to be a cut and dried "gimme an answer quick!" sort of thread, IMO. I'm sorry I can't be more help, and good luck!

Re: L022 and Ancistrus in the same tank
I have kept a 10cm L001/L022 in a long planted 20 gallon tank together with other plecs such as Panaque maccus (4), Ancistrus Cirrhosus (2), and Peckoltia Compta (2). Based on my experience, the L001 was pretty aggressive during feeding time, which is typical behavior among plecs. It would also protect a spot in tank by chasing others away but not to the point of intentionally killing them. I can say that there are far more aggressive plecs than L001 that are capable of killing their own kind and other bottom feeders.
I do agree with Barbie that feeding and tank furniture are very important factors in creating an ideal environment. Lots of plants, driftwood, and rocks are needed to provide hiding spots and lessen the tension among them.
