Hi!

This is an Hypancistrus sp possibly a young L66.
Still need to grow a bit and can turn out to be L333, L199 L316 or L318
Cheers

Hi!

It could alos be but I doubt... L270 are not as "whited" coloured and the dark bands are brown. But for me this is 95% sure a young L66

They are (surprise surprise) variable! I am going on background colour and thickness of stripes relative to SL.

I think it's a 318. Based on body pattern and especially the pattern on pectoral and pelvic fins (I know it's not the best way to ID this kind of fish, but anyway...)

Anyone notice that in the three fish shown on this topic, one has black pecs, one white and one banded! Aaaaaaaargh! Still don't think it is L66 but outside chance it is L333.

The scotcat picture heroically posted by magnum4 looks a little like L340 / LDA19 but I could be wrong.

But the lines are thinner (relative to SL) in L318 and the original picture shows thicker white lines?

The reason for thicker lines could be that it's a juvenile L318.

Hi!
The thing that make me belive it is L66 is basically the size of the fish. Look at its size compare to the gravel. The pattern will for sure evoluate a lot until he reaches adult size.
THat would be great to know under what name he was bought... it should give an indicatin of its origin.

Regarding L316 and L318 these fish are too close, they come from the same river and have almost identical body pattern ... to me this is the same species...especially if there are pretty variable.

Cheers
Yann
