WiFi Temp sensor for your fishtank
WiFi Temp sensor for your fishtank
Hi,
I helped develop a pretty cool product that I think the aquarium hobby might have a use for. Just looking to hear what you think of it and if you like, you're more than welcome to pre-buy these as part of the kickstarter.
It's a WiFi sensor hub that can remotely monitor the temperature of a fish room or aquarium or multiple aquariums. It sends you an email alert if the temp rises or falls outside your set range. It can monitor other things as well with additional sensors. Water presence sensor from a tank leaking, Humidity sensor, vibration, door switch.. etc.
Please click on the link and take a look at the video and tell me what you think.
Thank you for letting me post here.

Re: WiFi Temp sensor for your fishtank
The problem I have with most of these type of products is the water temperature sensors. They just don't hold up when you use RO water to keep the parameters on the acidic side.
Based on this statement "The sensor leads of the water presence sensor and the probe tip of the waterproof temperature sensor can be submersed but they cannot be used with strong acids or solvents." I would say your product will give me the same results; the probe will probably start going out before a year is up giving me incorrect readings.

I see your point. The probe is solid stainless steel with the temp sensor embedded inside. I think we were more thinking about the oil resistant and water proof housing on the cable not getting along with solvents.
I will look into a little and see what one of the engineers have to say about the life inside a salt water environment.
Thanks for looking at the product.

Looks like a cool and useful tool for aquarists. As long as all of the parts hold up to 1. saltwater and 2. soft, acidic water (two very different things), and you offer a decent warranty, it is something I would consider purchasing.
Re: WiFi Temp sensor for your fishtank
Pretty sure it will have a standard 1 year warranty against defect.
Need to confirm. Writing up the whole instruction manual and warranty is something we are going to do with the kickstarter money.

Re: WiFi Temp sensor for your fishtank
I have multiple tanks and don't see it being feasible to monitor each one. However, it does seem like a good idea for a single high-value tank.
Re: WiFi Temp sensor for your fishtank
Actually you can monitor multiple tanks!
With one Knut it can monitor up to 8 external waterproof temp sensors at the same time. You would need one Knut, and then a 8 port sensor hub (a box with 8 connectors on it), and then the external temp sensors. And at the same time it would also keep track of the ambient temp of the room.
It would log and display a graph on your pc or phone with all the recorded data. You can also name each sensor like, "Discus tank", "Top Row Left", "Catfish", "Basement floor - window" etc.. what ever you wanted to call each one.. totally up to you.
I feel like Anthony Sullivan.. But wait there's more!
You can also have a different alert parameter for each one. if you had a reptile tank in there as well and the temp monitoring is different than a koi tank or a cichlid tank.. etc.
Excuse my weird excitement. I have them all over my house. And I check them all the time.
I wish my tank in the basement would get below 84 when the a/c is off in the house. But the tank on the 2nd floor is usually perfect at 79 no matter if the a/c is on or off. Strangest thing. you would figure the complete opposite considering the location of the tanks.
any other questions, feel free to ask.
