Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

I had my delivery today of three

Auchenipterichthys coracoideus

. Was hoping for a 1M/2F trio, but it looks like I may have all females . They are currently acclimatising, but will get each one in the photo tank before it goes into the main tank, and some photos may help confirm the sexes.

How many do you have?
After taking some pictures, I *may* have 2M/1F, am not even sure if the images will confirm, but will post them up later as wasn't meant to stay at home so long this morning...
Am hoping, if they are a more active addition to the tank, that I'll be able to get some more shots once they have settled in, without having to use built-in flash on such a small tank.

I bought seven, all turned out male! I have five at present - have had them now since 2004 and 2007.

They came from Glaser, I believe they have a good reputation in this respect.

So today the T. taeniatus went to the large tank and the T. intermedia, T. dunni and S. acsi went to their new home at Kruseman's, where I swapped them against 5 Guianacara owroewefi.
Therefore - just for once - some pictures of my new assets in this thread.
Fear not btw, I still have 5 auchenipterid species left

They dont seem to be shy at all.The tank is perfect for the Guianacara: Fine sand, bogwood and lots of plants.

I try to make some pics as well after the lights go out tonight and hopefully the new Auch. will show up.

heheh no it was quite fast actually...I was lucky that everything went out right and fast...not always the case!!

They are very lovely little buggers...fun to watch them swimm gently over!!
Managed to take a few pictures before they hide!!

judging by the headhape and especially the shape of the bony plate on the head, I'd say these are extremely closely related....

it might very well be 2 local varieties of the same species!

The headplate looks different enough to be sure they are different species.


The surface of the galeatus' headplate is smoother. The edge above the mouth is very clear on the "unknown" species while on the galeatus it is hard to say were the headplate starts. And the edge between the eye and the point-directing-to-the-pectoral is more concave on galeatus.

Based on some extensive (amateur) research I've recently done I don't think your 'galeatus' are galeatus. It's a toss up between one or two poorly known species so I don't want to say at the moment.

Please try and get a shot of the unknown species full on from the side.

As I expect to see the T. sp. 3 more often - they are the only "Trachelyopterus" species left - I'll do my utmost to make some new pictures. Contrary to the impression one may get from the Clog pictures, these are really flat.

Wrt the above unknown species: I've had them for 6, maybe 7 years. They are absolutely full grown. Pls bear in mind that they are significantly shorter than the galeatus (which may no longer be galeatus?.....).

I think we will see Parauchenipterus revalidated in the future. WRT to the sp 3 I know what these are. I will hopefully clear this up in my article (if it ever gets finished).

No, no. You can't say "I know what these are/I'll clear this up" and then say "if it ever gets finished". Finish it and fill us in.
I must admit I left out the "hopefully" on purpose

When I say I dont think they are galeatus I was referring to the ones Bijn got from Paraguay.

I understood that, but I just wanted to point out that the "unknowns" stay much smaller than the ones I believe(-d) to be galeatus (= Bijn's specimens).
If memory serves, the unknows are a spitting image of T. coriaceus, only WITH adipose.

It's just that I'm waiting for some info/images that I might not get and I don't like to print it partially finished. if it doesn't look like it's going to get finished I might just do a short piece on sp. 3.

Just picked these up yesterday. Only small - max 5cm TL.

Not yet. On November 11 the tank with the "galeatus" will be moved, than I will make some time to take some pictures in a picture container. Soon after this the "Marc-species" will get their bigger tank, at least that's what I hope, than I'll make some pictures off them too.
