I'm pretty sure the same people who read this section would see your same post in the "Wanted" section where I moved your post in "For Sale" yesterday. This is called "Double posting", and doing that annoys people, because we like to see "new posts" rather than repeats of ones they have already read. Not everyone that comes to this forum comes here every day, so give people a chance to reply before repeating the post somewhere else.

I know you can get these fish in a local shop to me, but since that's 10 hours by airplane from where you are (give or take), I'm not sure how much help that is. I beleive they are not rare as "returns" in shops, as they tend to be quite aggressive.

I guess it would also help if you detailed a little better where in the rather large state of Texas you live in - I mean, I've been to Austin, and it takes a about an hour to drive to San Antonio, four hours to Houston, three hours to Dallas, etc, and that's not even half the state. In three hours I can get from the south of England to the Northern parts, six hours would probably have me arrive in Scotland.

Mats right. I got burnt by doing smth similar too, so don't feel alone.

These fish are quite common and cheap, <$10 in the LFSs in eastern US and yes, returns are common too. Lovely, lovely looking fish. Don't try to keep >1 together.

Sorry, cannot help much with on-line availability. Google it, I guess. or can try wanted sections, e.g., here and other reputable fish sites - waterwolves, monsterfishkeepers, etc.

HI juanitoman

does anyone know where i can get a Mystus leucophasis(Asian upside down cat) online????
Try sending a PM to Dave Rinaldo he is from your part of the world.
If Dave can not help you with an on-line seller he may be able to give you the name and addresses of some LFS in Texas that might stock them or maybe able to get hold of one for you.
I ‘Doc I can’t stop singing The Green, Green Grass of Home’
“That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome.
‘Is it common?’
“It’s not unusual.” :YMTONGUE:

I cringe at the thought of suggesting this, but the specimen I had up till recently I obtained from of all places a Wal-Mart at a size less than 3 inches and my Wal-mart almost always has at least a few in stock....

:-O - do they label them right?
If yes, goes to show to cynics and unbelievers that miracles happen in our age too :)

Probably labelled as "Upside down Catfish - community fish", I'd expect.

The likely scenario is that both alternatives are true - there are so many factors:
1. Age of fish when put together. Clearly, young fish can be kept together, as I have seen groups of these in tanks more than once.
2. Amount of space in the tank, and number of suitable hiding spaces.
3. Sex of the fish - two males are less likely to "work" than a male and a female, or two females.
4. Individual variation in temperament.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are a few other factors that I can't think of right now.

If you have some "emergency solution", such as a second tank you can use as a "safe-haven", then it's perhaps worth a punt. But if you only have the one tank, it may get very awkward to rapidly solve a situation that arises.

They are certainly not rumoured to be "docile".

First let me say this double post thing is annoying! I answered in the other post. Thank Viktor for telling me about this post.

I double checked my LFS and they have the Syno UD cats not the asians

If you are still interested I see "black upside down" listed by one of my suppliers. I can get them for you at $5 each and I'll ship it USPS priority for $18. I'll know on or before Tuesday exactly which species it is. Monday is a holiday, not sure if they answer phones on Saturday.
