Welcome to Planet Catfish.
What part of Africa are your cichlids originating from? If you have already decided which species you want, then tell us what they would be. This will tell us what sort of catfish would be suitable.

I have a 75 gal. african tank (lake Malawi) and I introduced Syno.Multipunctatus. They also like to sneak their spawn into mouth brooders spawn.Quite amazing.

If they are more aggressive rift lake cichlids then something like syno grandiops or multipunctata or njassae or granulosa etc
If they are more peaceful rift lake cichlids then lophiobagrus or phyllonemus
If they are riverine cichlids then that opens up amphillids, riverine synos, claroteids and a whole lot more
But the key is knowing what cichlids you intend to keep.
