Doradid At Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach?

Post by Mike C »

I was recently at the Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, SC and one of the tanks had what looked to me like a Doradid that was almost 2 feet in length. I didn't know they grew that large so I am trying to figure out if this is actually a Doradid and if it is, what kind? The fish didn't move while I was watching it, so I only have pictures as it was facing the back of the tank. I didn't see any signs on the tank, and I didn't see anyone to ask at the aquarium. The color in the photo is pretty accurate, grayish/brown with no stripes, spots or other markings... just a row of spines down each side.

I am just curious because the Doradids I keep are my favorite fish.

Thanks,
Mike

& the other fish (which you can see the rear of) gets even bigger. It is an arapaima i think.
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

yep, O niger, usual max 3'. Sweetest gentle giant.

Richard, good point! That thing can easily reach 10' and the record is 15' but that takes many many years.
