Back from the Amazon
Hello all,
I spent the week before last collecting around Leticia, Colombia. We actually spent most of our time collecting on the opposite bank of the Amazon in Peru. Thought you all might enjoy some photos.
Leaving Colombia in the morning and crossing the river to reach Peru. The land on the otherside of the river is Peru.
We stopped at this hut and collected for a while. This is a small blackwater cano about 200 meters off the main river channel. We collected doradids, Corydoras leucomelas, Rineloricaria and Loricariichthys here.
A blackwater Glyptopterichthys sp.
Some of the doradids
My collecting partner was Jimmy. He and his family live on this "house boat." In the wet season they anchor their house in Leticia and in the wet season the house boat and the family float down the river and collect fishes for the hobby. The bottom story of the boat contains fish holding facilities and the family lives upstairs.
This is the inside bottom story where the fish are held. Jimmy specializes in collecting Corydoras spp. He recieves 20,000 Colombian pesos for every ONE THOUSAND Corydoras he collects. That is about $7.00 for 1,000 Corys.
End of the day... Looking back at Peru as the sun sets and we head back to Colombia.

Konig,
Yes, there will be a diary of some sort but I am not sure what form it will take. Possibly just a series of articles on the website. My Venezuela diaries are almost finished. I have edited and expanded them and also added numerous papers and articles that I wrote in Venezuela as wll as additional collecting notes that are not posted here. I hope to put it all together and publish a book in time.

Sorry, the original post is over 7 years old. Few things on the internet last that long.

Re: Back from the Amazon
As you may have noticed, the thread is over a decade old. The pictures were hosted by a site then run by "clothahump" (Tim Beer) who soon after 2003 disappeared from the scene taking his websites with him. I think Shane still has the pics, and maybe (as this thread does appear to attract quite a lot of hits) he could edit the original post and upload the pics (which you couldn't do back in the day). But that would involve a fair bit of work in Shane actually finding the photos just so as to upload them...stephan333 wrote:Sorry, I cant see ant pics at this topic.
Hope that explains the history a bit,
Cheers,
