HELP!! Whats the difference btwn a Bronze and Emerald Cory?

Post by Baba1969 »

:-\ Yes, I am confused! No one can seem to tell me the difference between a Bronze Cory and an Emerald Cory. Sorry for such a dumb question as I am sure this is very basic, but then again....I am quite new to catfish.

Can anyone help clear up my confusion???

Thank you very much, Baba ^:)^

If, by emerald cory, you mean , then the difference is in the length of the dorsal-fin base (the dorsal fin is the one on top of the body). An emerald cory has a longer dorsal-fin base with 10-12 fin rays, while a bronze cory has a shorter fin base with only 7 fin rays.

Thank you very much for the picture of the Brochis splendens (or what I've been calling an emerald catfish). I can rule out that one since the length of my fish's dorsal fin is much shorter (I can only count about 7 rays that end abruptly), although that fish's coloring is VERY close to mine.

So, can I ask where I might find a picture of a bronze cory? I've GOT to get this figured out, cuz it's keeping me up late every night and my husband is really tired of hearing me tapping on the computer keys all night! %-(

Thanks again!!!

Additionally this species has been called emerald cory although green laser is a more accepted common name

I bought 6 cories listed as emerald cories from the auction in Pittsburgh. They are about 3 cms in length and are a bright emerald green in colour. They look nothing like aeneus as far as color , more like a Brochis but there are only seven rays in the dorsal.

Alas,I'm relatively new to the world of computers and do not have the right equipment to photograph the fish in question let alone the know how to post a photoghaph on this site. I'll work on this.
