Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
I made a decision/promise some days ago and I think for once I should live up to it. Thus I did not take the 6 C. perugiae I was offered at an LFS yesterday. It was a kind of new experience to me, but I think I did the right thing.nvcichlids wrote:hopefully we will be able to get your populations back up
In all honesty, I may take them when the other fishes are divided over the 2 tanks and I'm sure everything remains alright. So if they're still there in about six weeks (I think so - they are from the batch I already picked some from (including a C. reticulata) about 2 years ago), I might "rescue" them.
Like Kruseman said, wood with small crevices they just fit in and/or the smallest PVC pipes you can find. Obviously the wood would look much better imo, but that's a matter of taste.nvcichlids wrote:I received two gravid females with my cent. perugiae's... what can I do (what type of cave(?)) should I supply
Do you have small spot or large spot specimens? Looking forward to pictures.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
They are doing just fine as far as I can see, Marc. Good to hear your fish swim in "calmer waters".
I feed them in the morning when it is still dark and during the evening: Black and white mosquitolarvae. Then they cruise through the water untill they bump into something edible. The female isn't swimming as well as the male ones: I looks like her swimblatter is not working that well. Other than that I believe they are quite healthy.
At both LFS's the Protazol was too old. Thats can be dangerous as I have read at a cichlidforum. So I havent bought the stuff yet.
They are going to be in quarantaine for a long time. Probably with Protazol in a week , just to be sure.
Atm I am very busy with emptying the main tank. I always get quite nervous doing that somehow.
BTW Looked the species up in Mees's (1974) desription of auchenipterids from Surinam: It probably is C. concolor indeed. But from Surinam? I always thought that country doesn't export that much. They might also originate from Colombia (Rio Ocoa)?
Nice fish! I asked a friend to make some decent pictures with a good camera.

That's a good thing. Maybe the female will improve; give it some time. I did not notice that btw: the reason I took the other female was that she was a little bigger than your girl.kruseman wrote:I feed them in the morning when it is still dark and during the evening: Black and white mosquitolarvae. Despite the title, Mees did not only describe species from Surinam.kruseman wrote:BTW Looked the species up in Mees's (1974) desription of auchenipterids from Surinam: It probably is C. concolor indeed. True. But Mees uses a specimen from the Coppename rivier in Surinam to desribe the species.Marc van Arc wrote: Despite the title, Mees did not only describe species from Surinam.

They look gorgeous
Have you got no protective cover for the heater? That may prevent them from burning themselves; I'm a bit scared they may regard it as a "nice" resting place because they can squeeze themselves between the heater and the glass - despite all the wood.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
Mine seem to be settling in quite nicely, but I am hoping to move them into a 55 gallon in the next couple of weeks currently they are living in an 8 gallon holding tank/hospital tank until I can assure myself they are healthy and ready to go. After the 8 gallon, they get to move into a 15 gallon which is the intermediate housing/hospital tank (more of a get ready for the vast openness of your next tank type of tank.) Will work on shooting pictures again, but everything seems to be coming out blurry

Today I divided the Auchenipteridae of my medium tank into both medium and small tank, which implies that the former disaster tank now has some occupants again. To anyone interested, see My aquaria.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
I've lost two more of the . Not easy fish to keep in a community tank. They got infected with a some sort of fungus and i tought it might be better to end their suffering.
Something good happened too, i managed to place an order for a group of five plus some other cats. They should be here in few weeks.

That's too bad! Over here they are doing fine despite illnesses, medications etc. Although I'm a bit reluctant to say so these days...
I'm sure you'll be pleased with T. taeniatus. Very nice & elegant auchenipterid. Over here (sorry...) I counted 2 specimens (a pair); number 3 is missing again. I hope it's in a piece of wood that I moved to the small tank. I had to move that piece because it's home to my Auchenipterinae spec guyana and it's quite impossible to get them out.

Yep. It was sad to read what happened to your fishes.
I've been trying to get T. taeniatus for over three years. Let's hope now is the time.
First group i got in 2007 were DOA, and the second time i tried to get them, i received T. galeatus.
