Information on these 2 beauties

Post by FatCat »

Well considering how the only thing i ever find around here is common and brisitle nose plecos I was pleased to find a couple new lovely fish very reasonably priced. Of course I would like to get some information to help me decide to purchase one or both of them. Here goes. Rhino pleco (Glyptoperichthys Scrophus) , Cochliodon Sp. (looks like L077). Id apreciate any information as to mature size, water parameters, feeding and compatability between the two if possible. Thanks

Hi!

Waht size is your tank?

I have 3 different Hypostomus (Cochliodon) cochliodon and they love wood and produce a really big mass of sawdust. Mine have grown to 20 cm and have seemed to stop there. Reached that size from 8 cm in about 1.5 years. They are quite territoreal resulting in fights over caves and food with torn fins. They eat all green plants available including javafern and Anubia sp.
I never had a G.scrophus but to my knowledge they grow to 45 cm...
cheers

Think that i will stray away from G. Scrophus. Just above the size I hade in mind. However I do believe that i will have to acquire an Cochliodon Sp. along with some more wood. He will go into a 20 G. to start with, then into the 55 G. or the 58 G. later when required. Not any competition for him in 20 as of now and he will probibally fit in fine in the 55 later when he requires more space. :D
