yeah i do breed them i have 41 fully grown l134 and a also have some 2 week old babys. i picked up the group for a very good price the other day.

picked them up from maidenhead aquatics on sunday. my l134s babys are doing well only lost 1 out the 25 they are all eating well now. how are your l260 doing if you have any babys i wouldnt mind some off you one day.

Assuming a balanced sex ratio, you should be able to winnow the group down to about 20 females and 7 or 10 males for 2 or 3 different breeding colonies.
More likely, you already have more males than females to choose your breeders from. I suspect a lot of males get collected from nests they are reluctant to abandon which tends to skew the sex ratios among the wild imports towards more males. Females have the good sense to flee at any signs of danger and are less likely to be captured.

Hi Wayne,

you're obviously very into these fish but do you keep any in a community tank? It's great to see so many together and I hope you have much success with the breeding.
I've had one since last year that used to come out at feeding time and occasionally but now I never see it.
I always felt it was a female as she was a chunky looking fish with no hairs, but when I had her in my hand recently while doing a tank re scape, she had hairs around the rear quarter, none up front though.
I bought a male recently and now the two of them don't come out to feed! I'm pretty sure they're all over the place at night but the cucmber I put in which used to get devoured is left untouched.
I don't feel like giving up on this fish. It was my first plecs and they're such a great looking fish to keep. So I'm looking for two more to add and hopefully then I will start to see them more often. I reallydo t mind them hiding but to occasionally see them is all I need

should I try to buy 2 females? Do the males hide more than the females in tanks as well as in the wild?

Most plecos hide most of the time - no matter what species they are. And yes, males tend to hide a bit more than females - captive or in the wild, it's the same "need to keep my cave safe" behaviour - the fish probably don't really understand that "captive means much less threats".

If you want a group of four fish, I'd be tempted to go for two more females (if you can find them!), but in a large enough tank (with enough hiding spaces), a group of 2M/2F would possibly also work.

I'm pretty sure I saw a tank with a fair number of L134 at Pier (I think they were £34 each), if you are willing to travel a bit to get them... At least, if there is a large group, chances are that you can select what you want. I'm sure other

i have 2 tanks that just have l134s plus my main community tank in my living room with l134s and corys plus a few more neons. most of mine hide all the time but when my females are full of eggs i seem to see them out alot in the day and night going round all the caves that have males in them. i have 10 males and 31 females they all semm to get on ok with each now. i will try get some pics up later tonight.

the temp is around 84f. i dont really see them feeding as i feed them at night befor i go bed so i dont really know. just found more eggs tonight well happy they are breeding every few weeks
