Yesterday i lost a barbatus. I took the fish out of my large tank as he was in distress and the rear half of his body had turned white as if dead. I could see something moving inside him. After he had died the worms which when stretched were about 5mm long and 1-2mm wide proceeded to devour the flesh and today when i looked in the tank his body cavity had been eaten and the worms numbering thirty were dead on the bottom of the tank.
Can anyone identify them for me and explain why this should happen after having this fish for almost a year? The fish in this tank only get frozen irradiated food or catfish pellets and tinned tuna no other fish appear to be affected (so far).
