Bristlenose fry with eggs still attached?

Post by Connie »

I saw these two little orange blobs on my aquarium glass a couple days ago and they were moving, this is my bristnose breeding tank after closer look I saw an outline of a little pleco with what looked to be an egg still attached to its belly.
Now maybe this is normal but I usually dont bother to poke around in this tank till my bristlenose fry are bigger.
Is this something normal or maybe these guys are having trouble getting ridof the egg sac?
BTW I checked yesterday and they are still in the tank.
Thanks,
Connie

The yolk should be resorbed by the fish over time and should gradually shrink and disappear ultimately. Sounds normal to me.

Definitely a normal thing Connie. It will take 7 days at 80 degrees for them to fully absorb the yolk. Sometimes something will startle the male and he'll accidentally knock them out of the cave. It happens occasionally in my spawning tank, but hasn't ever been a problem. Even when there are older generations in the same tank. They won't hurt the new little guys.

Thanks I have 3 generations of fry in the tank right now and they mind there own buisness, I noticed the male the day before fanning in the cave (I cant see in there so not sure if there were still eggs) and since then he hasent been back to the cave, this is weird for him, I hope he didnt say screw it and leave them because I know before even them being a few months old they would still hide in this cave with him and he would guard the enterance.
I havent seen the fry with the eggs still attached, I hope they made it back to the cave ok.
Thanks,
Connie
