Plecos Dying ?

Post by cwm »

Hi Kids
I've been raising Albino B.N. plecos for about 10 yrs. I have a problem that I have never seen before. I've had adults
B.N. in 2 Different tanks die in the last week, about 10 different fish. These fish turn red before they die. I do weekly water changes of 30%. They are feed alge flakes & zukes & collard greens. Nothing else in the tanks are affected, Angels-Synodonis cats -Cory cats. Anybody have a IDEA?
Any help will be a HELP.
Thanks, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
sorry to hear about your bad week! :(

What's your water tests showing? I guess that would be the first way to rule out amonia etc.
Anything new in the tank, different water source? I've heard of pyrethrin being added to flush city systems occasionally, could your water supply have any treatment plant changes?
Was there anything in the air that could have affected some of the fish? anything in the house being painted/varnished, airsprays etc?

There's got to be an answer for this one since you've been successful for 10 years, must be something introduced. I think if it was something like a bug/disease of some sort, it would be only one tank whereas something in the air/water would affect certain fish in both tanks like you experienced.
Write back with your water tests. How's the remaining BNs?
Racing, shoes and fish. Nothing else matters. Oh, and bacon.
