Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

Just a quick note to tell you that not only (my)

Tatia intermedia

but also

Tatia gyrina

show serious intraspecific aggressive behaviour. The females seem pretty well, yet the males have bitten off caudal lobes and wounded areas near the anal fins. I wonder if this group of 7 relatively small specimens is too big? I've already reduced the T. intermedia group (initially 16 juvenile specimens) to 3 (1 male; 2 females) which seems to work better as they don't bump into each other constantly. I'll add some more wood shortly (although the tank provides plenty of hiding places) and hope they will spread a little for atm they hide/rest behind the (guarded) heater and the filter outlet - which sit next to each other.

Pls note that I don't witness this behaviour in any other auchenipterid species I currently keep.

However, on an interspecific level, the single

Glanidium leopardum

appears to be a nuissance towards other species, probably because it needs a larger territory than other species I've kept so far. I really doubt that it's caused by the lack of company of its own kind for it would be the first auchenipterid ime to behave like that for such reason.

I think it's time to go shopping for a larger tank for the small Auchenipterids ;)

ditch the 2 tiny tanks and set up a 1,5m 350-400L tank for the wee catfishes; it'll clear up a lot of problems

it's not as easy as it looks;
to pull that stunt, Marc needs to relocate his daughters' room to the attic, move his second hobby to the then available room and set up a new tank there; a lot of work


i can think of about a couple of thousand car folders to be moved and a huge load of car miniatures as well

moving house while not moving house!

and somewhere in that huge indoors migration a tanktransfer

ah well, he can have his laughs when I'm moving house.....we get the key of our extremely decadent villa on the first of july

that's the fun part.

the not so funny part is the moving of 3 households into 1 and that includes 3 smaller tanks (50-75G) to upstairs and 2 really big uns (1 new to be set up tank from Patrick and my 315G Madagascar tank) to put in the first and second living room.

Yep, papier-mâché (pronounced paper muh-shay) masks. Not what I'm after; the collection is much too valuable to me.

Right, good people, back to the auchenipterids.

The point of more space is well taken, yet I was merely surprised by the fact that some species show this intraspecific aggressiveness while others (like C. perugiae/cf. altae and A. coracoideus) don't show this at all.
I'll add the extra wood tomorrow and see how things work out.

Marc has a bunch and they are fun to watch. very weird, very funny.

unfortunately nor the tapwater here, nor my other fish are "auchenipterid friendly".
these wee little Entomocorus would end up in hell if I added them to any tank, so I'll just watch em at his place.

LOL, I have been debating adding some of the fry I have from my breeding group of auchenipterids (listed in signature) to my jag tank, to see if the fry would mingle with eachother and make it though! ( I would guess they would end up food though )

A small addition to all pictures in this thread: here's a night shot of my Liosomadoras; she has become paler since her mate went to GW, but at night she's almost white

Also to be seen: a pair of Trachelyopterus fisheri, a "turning" Triportheus angularis (top) and a Gymnocorymbus bondi

the tracheliopterichthys look good!
they were very thin when bought.

IMO this is one of the best looking auchenipterids.
is this the male? i sort of spot a weird shape at the front of the anal fin.

How are you finding these? Mine do not seemed to have grown any more, so assume adult size to be slightly smaller than C.perugiae, but with only one pair left (and amazingly, four very small young which are almost impossible to see/find), they are as active at feeding time as ever.
Do you know if you've had any spawns yet?
