Has anyone bred L255?

I was wondering if anyone has bred these fish as I have been offered a couple of adults for me xingu tank and the guy reakons they are male and female.

I'd be surprised if they haven't been bred but i think Barbie will be key in answering this (?)

I did a search, and I found nothing useful. Are these established? If not, it sounds like they are pretty hard to establish in a tank (attempts included Jools, who I think is fairly good at not killing fish in general).

I wish I was the key in answering this, but I can only assume they have not. I know I'd have remembered if I read any spawning reports and I definitely don't know anyone that's personally had any luck yet. They are pretty sensitive, IME, and I hadn't managed to replace my own group when they became hard to come by. I sure hope someone is successful with them!

L34 has been bred, well eggs laid and a couple of fry produced,by somebody in Taiwan.

There are pics of these somewhere on Plecofanatics.

I initially had difficulty establishing a colony, now I have 10 from three different shipments, all doing well. All living in a 48'' x 12'' x 18'' tank a couple have been there for 2 years and the rest between 12 and 18 months. 4 adults and 6 sub adults growing out.

The following is advice obtained from Neil (aka Sojapat). They live in a very high temp, mine are kept at between 86f and 89f and live in still water. I have read reports of them surviving at lower temperatures, but few accounts of them growing well at the lower temperatures.

So in my opinion to get the best out of them, they should be kept in a single species tank. I have tried with smaller Hypancistrus, and the L255's end up behind the filters.

Considering the high temp these are kept at, the water in the tank is turned over by the filters at least 10 times per hour, as the food is likely to rot at a very quick rate.

I feed mine Tetra Doromin, Tetra Prima, Frozen Brine Shrimp, Frozen Bloodworm and Chopped Prawn.

These fish remain well hidden, though if you feed them late at night, you do see some activity.

I have seen one of the adult females, and I was sure that she was gravid, but no fry materialised.

In the near future I will be trying RO water and different types of cave to see if anything happens.

Ranunculus has been bred a number of times. Rearing the fry is supposedly tricky.

I have not really had an issue working with L-255. I have kept them with h. sabaji, smaller hypancistrus, and other similar fish. It takes a while for them t get used to a steady feeding regime, but otherwise, they are unproblematic.

Oddly enough, I have found them to prefer current.

there has been several spawnings of A. ranunculus in Austria, see for instance here.
I have heard of one succesful spawning of L 255 also, but only one fry survived. I will try to clarify if this is trustworthy information or just showing off...

I have one male and one female that I have since two and three months respectively. They share the tank with three small Hemiloricaria sp., it seems that this is a adequate company.
