Another Petricola or Lucipinnis ID

Post by fishbguy »

Okay, so my 1st fish we ID'd as a petricola.

Now I got another one. I thought it was amulti, but when I looked at it, it had a white dorsal, which means either petricola or multi.

But this one is smaller and has a more rounded head.

Here ya go...What is he?

Okay...are you messin with us :)

The first, second, third and fourth picture are the same fish as the first picture in this thread http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 13&t=25080, if you compare the spotting pattern and dorsal spine it is the same...I would call this lucipinnis but am a bit skittish on that now.

The other fish looks to be the second fish in that same post...petricola

This is a good thing it had me perplexed before.

first is a lucipinnis, the last fish that's also in the other topic a petricola

mind, that other topic was a very hard one, that's why I didn't drop in there

but now you can see the differences.

the best difference to separate lucipinnis from petricola is overall bodyshape and when you compare picture 1 and 3 (lucipinnis) with picture 5 and 6, you'll see that the petricola is much more elongated

check the distance between dorsal and adipose for each fish and compare

also the headpart is much longer with petricola, check the distance between the dorsal implant and the nose and compare.

actually it's a lot easier to see now that we can compare ;)

can you take a head-on pic of the petricola? then we can compare broadnmess of mouth.

even better would be 2 pics of the underside of the head, 1 of each species. because it IS visible with dentation too.

Being blunt (busy at work-sorry), i agree with Sid.... i am still bemused by the pics in the other thread being the same fish :?
