Will O. cocama hybridize with O. affinis?

Post by peterl »

I have a breeding colony of O. affinis in a 15 gal. planted tank, along with ALOT of red cherry shrimp and tiger shrimp. I will soon be upgrading this tank to a 40 gal. breeder (36x18 inches). I would like to add a colony of O. cocama, but I am concerned that IF I can get the zebra otos to spawn, they might hybridize with the affinis. I can't find any info on breeding O. cocama.

TIA,

peter

I think the likelihood that they will hybridize is very, very small (to the point of non-existence).

Thanks, Silurus!

There are some great suggestions in that thread. I never thought of using grungy filter intakes as a food source.

Like the poster in that thread, I lost a lot of my Oto fry due to (I think) lack of available food. With all of the shrimp in my tank, I have no algae at all. If and when my Otos start spawning again, I plan on setting up a 10 gallon "algae tank"
