Jupp, it is. At least within reasonable "error margins". Thus, as you suggest, it will at some point in time be more like your first one.
Just to complete: I would not consider the tail markings as a decicive difference between L 114 and P. leopardus.
Check this beautiful youngster:
If I got the explanation correct, then this would be P. leopardus. But, considering the head markings as well as colour (P. leopardus is greenish; gives ID immediately away once you have seen the real thing), it clearly is an exceptionally coloured juvenile (5-6cm) L 114.
