Thank you for the offer Richard, but I don`t expect feeding the fry with my usual menu will be a problem. I will by some Novofect from my LFS today.

If any of you can see from the pictures when the right time to start feeding is I would really appreciate it. I am not really an experienced pleco breeder, but even I can see it is still early.

For a "non experienced pl*co breeder", I would say that you're the best!
Other breeders normaly goes from Ancistrus sp. (3) to some Peckoltia... but not Hemiancistrus!
You're pictures are amazing, and the quality is stunning! Would really like to share some of you're experience in that aerea! I'm really bad in taking photos of fishes in my aquarium

I would love so see all the fry in one week or so!
My L241 has just started to breed again, among with my L134 and L107!

Befor you're breeding attemts, I only heard of breeding of L200 in some big aquarium in germany!

This is the best time for a pelcobreeder!

One of the babys yolc sac is becoming more dull/opaque and larger than the other ones. I bet he has an infection. All the rest are fine.
When I came home from work today the alpha male had rejected a 3 bad eggs from his cave.

Likely a bacterial infection...

It happened sometimes... never tried to treat the baby...wonder how it would react, guess it would be better to isolate it in another tank for treatment...if it ever works...

The sick one died in isolation shortly after the picture was taken. The male is fanning the fry (can`t see them) of the new brood, and everything seems to be ok with the 15 I have left of the first spawn. I will make a picture update later this evening, and continue to do so every evening unntil they start eating. After that I will make updates less often, or when there is something interesting to see.

There are so many other beautiful species, but for me this one has always been special since I first saw pictures of it on internet and in books. The yellow spots on adults are so very yellow, and yellow has always been my favourite color. About the popularity of the topic.. If anyone bothers to properly document the breeding of any of the species considered to be good looking in real time, it will probably become a popular topic. Personally I don`t have the patience to read threads like this, and much prefer a good article.

I think this thread is so popular because

a) your thread on the aquarium is so well-documented and the aquarium so beautifully laid out
b) the photos of the aquarium and the inhabitants are so incredible- a real inspiration
c) H. subviridis is a gorgeous plec with so little known about its breeding habits and care of fry

So in short you're being a trend-setter- and we all wish you the best of luck. I'd recommemd that you write a resume of your experiences for this site, but also for magazines, etc.- with your photography skills you could definitely get two decent magazine articles out of your experiences which OK wouldn't pay the electric bills but would at least pay something.

Today's update... When will these need to be fed? Sunday maybe? All the dark spots is from all the shit inside my camera. I usually remove them in photoshop, but why bother tonight... We are all friends here

not having bred any loricarid harder than the common Ancistrus, I don't think I can answer much.

All books say "when the yolk sac had disappeared, they start eating' haowever, any food you think about might just need some time to water in - but should not spoil the water

So actually the balance is rather thin, I'm afraid

I don't feed untill the stomach is wihte and I can see the intestines.
I would say that it a few more days befor its time! Maybe 3 days perhaps less.

They seemes to develop well. No deformed fins!

Something seemed wrong with the males behaviour in the cave, so I lifted the cave out and emptied it into a container. There was nothing there except for the male that measured 106mm sl and 141mm tl.. Next time I will steal the eggs again. I assume Hemiancistrus are annual, and will only breed a few weeks in the winter, and I feel an urge to produce more if possible.

The 15 fry in the breeder box are still fine of course.

Today I measured them as 18mm tl. They are still living on the yolk. All 15 are almost equally developed. Some have used only around a day's worth of yolk more than others.
