food for red cat tail fish

hello i have a red cat 40 c"m should i feed him with oysters
is there any other suggestion (i dont like the idea of giving him live fish )

Oysters and other shellfish, fish, prawns the like is all fine foods. Frozen or cooked products and those from marine environment are often better since that reduces the risk of transferring parasites.

Edit: Blatant self promotion - I wrote a "feeding plecos article". Of course, your fish is not a pleco, but the suggestions for carnivore would apply to RTC's as well.

there really isn't any reason why live fish should have to be fed to 99% of predatory fish (there are a few exceptions). The article from Mats is excellent & well worth checking out.

The only thing i'd add is that RTCs have been recorded in the wild as eating soft fruits, so it would be worth trying them on ripe plums etc which would be similar to the fruit they'd eat in the wild.

Crab & shell on raw prawn are favourites with big individuals.

If (dead) fish are fed, avoid oily fish like mackerel, as regurgitations lead to extreme rapid tank pollution

Prawns, frozen fish fillets, grapes, mangos, hikari massivore tablets, mussels .....actually they eat anything.... problem is they tend to eat EVERYTHING :lol:
