My first Syno - a S. decorus.
I came in to my LFS on Saturday and some other "customers" where there handing over a big bucket of (I think) Malawi Cichlidae, but in the bucket was also a rather large S. decorus as identified by the staff. Being rather cautious regards the risk of hybrids, I went home to check the Cat-eLog, and yes, it has all the relevant signs of a genuine one (straight lines in the caudal fin, the branched barbels on upper and lower sides) - I couldn't quite see the branches on the upper barbels in the shop, but once it found a hiding place in my tank I could see clearly that all barbels are branched.
I don't know if I paid lots or not for it, as it came to £36, for a 5-6" TL fish - didn't seem excessive to me.
So far he (or she) has not been seen to eat, but I don't really expect that within the first three days....

Mats - that sounds about the average for that size specimen, based on what i've seen in shops this year.

Re: My first Syno - a S. decorus.
Crikey- I've never paid more than £5 for a fish! (although I've bought a lot of fish at £4.99/£5). I've seen decorus (or at least they were listed as decorus) for anything from £12 to £20 over the last year, but probably not at that size, but don't these grow pretty quickly? My eupterus has grown to about 5.5"-6" TL from 2.5" in a year; I know decorus are a lot shyer but thuoght they were fast-growers too.
Megalechis thoracata, Callichthys callichthys, Brochis splendens (and progeny), Corydoras sterbai, C. weitzmani, CW044 cf. pestai, CW021 cf. axelrodi, Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus (and progeny), Panaque maccus, Panaque nigrolineatus, Synodontis eupterus

I'm sure it will make up for lost time. They love to eat, and given the chance will overfeed until they look like they've swallowed a golf ball.MatsP wrote:So far he (or she) has not been seen to eat, but I don't really expect that within the first three days....
