l104 breeding size/age/sexing ????

Post by kurasaki »

just wondering how old and how big do l104 clown plecos have to be to breed
i have 3 of them and 2 of them are fat and chubby and one of them is quite a bit skinnier and there only around 2 inches long
does the size mean sex? like the 2 fater ones are possibly females and the skinnier one is a male?
anyhelp would be appreciated

I would say that they are possibly a little bit on the small side if they are 5cm/2" total length, but possibly. The male will have quite a hairy body when mature.

They aren't the easiest to breed (mine have spawned a couple of times, but no fry).

Unfortunately, the first photo is not clear enough, and the second one is a bit too small to see if the body [all parts behind the head] is "hairy" or not.

Here's a shot of my male:

Edit: Yes, the "other" fish is a of some sort.

thanks, i just had a close look at the three of them and the thinest of the three seems to have tiny little hairs on its body which i didnt notice before now .
so are these hair looking things odontodes
the l104 page says they grow elongated odontodes but yea i dont have a clue what that means lol.

I have got a group of 15 in a 48 by 18 and hoping that they will breed for me. There is a lot of activity around the caves but no spawning yet. Good luck with your efforts.
