Finally! My L134 have fry!
I know, I'm slacking by posting this with no pictures, but hey, they're just wigglers in the back of the cave at the moment ;). I had two rinsed out when I was doing a water change or I probably wouldn't know even now! They've been cohabitating off and on for a couple months. The tank has Cyprichromis leptosoma "Utinta" growing out in it (ok, well, spawning since I have no place to put them at the moment!) and I didn't dare do a true "rainy season". I did let them skip a couple water changes after they started shacking up and then do a nice big one. Evidently it was enough with the live foods and finally mature fish.
This is my 15th species of Loricariidae spawned to date, I think. I haven't been this excited about finding a spawn since the zebras gave me a spawn as a wedding present though ;).

Congrats on the spawn. Did your fish trade notes with Larry's by any chance?

Hi Barbie,
Guess this means you won't be buying any of mine.
My colony of L134 are now regularly producing over 50 fry per month.

Re: Finally! My L134 have fry!
What's funny is that I've had a lot of "first spawns" with fish this year, but nothing has made me squeal and hop around my fish room like these did ;). I almost was afraid to get my hopes up when I saw those wigglers. The tank is full of fish totally unsuited to what they "need" for spawning, with nowhere on the horizon anytime soon for a place to put them. I got too busy to get their water changes done the way they should be one week, and then decided to push my luck for two. It was definitely enough, thank goodness. These are one of my favorite plecos so it was definitely a big party.
Now if I can get the L114 to go, life will be good! I'm planning to move the Lophiobagrus out of their tank this next week. The female is gravid, so here's hoping ;). They'll be worth carrying RO water up the stairs for!
And Larry yours are going to be a few months ahead of mine for size. I'll definitely want to buy some for the store, no worries . Hopefully mine will be big enough I can take some to the Convention in October. I'm planning to donate a few captive bred groups for auction with the proceeds to benefit PC. Without everyone here I'd still be staring at my pretty fish with a flashlight, wishing I knew where to start ;).

That just goes to show that if you leave the fish to themselves, they can figure out what to do themselves!Barbie wrote:What's funny is that I've had a lot of "first spawns" with fish this year, but nothing has made me squeal and hop around my fish room like these did ;). Re: Finally! My L134 have fry!
Hi Barbie,
Peckoltia sp. L134 definitely responds in text book style to a period of benign neglect for a month or so(ie. skipping water changes) then doing large water changes in quick succession. Mine do seem to like the changed water replacement to be RO but, they also have spawned using only tap water.
I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised at the rapid growth of the fry. Their growth rate seems extraordinarily rapid compared to most small pleco species and they are also quite hardy. Much more prolific than a Hypancistrus sp of the same size. This species future in the hobby looks very bright.

Re: Finally! My L134 have fry!
If you ever wanna sell one of the babies when they get big enough, keep me in mind.
I have a 55 gal with 12 peppered cories and 4 oto cats and one male betta that I would love to put him into, when it matures enough, the tank.
I do not know if you ship them tho.
I have been researching for one for that tank and def need one that eats more protein like the cories. There are hardly any avail here cept commons. I was luck to find my bristlenose.
