Welcome to Planet Catfish.
It looks like a "Leopard Frog Pleco", Peckoltia sp.(L134) to me.
Good luck,
Josh

Nope, it's a species of I think - one of the unusual / really nice ones. I am off to bed otherwise I'd look it up. Sorry!

Hi!!
What size is it?
Due to the rather yellow colouration and taking in mind it is not full grown if I compare it to the galaxy along with him, I would say L333
Cheers

Albeit not much, I was up late last night working on the site and getting a few things finished off before I head down to London to hang out with Shane & family for the weekend. I would guess not much more happening (from me) on the site for a few days!SOBERKITTY wrote:Apparently even the mighty Jools requires sleep like the rest of us small mortals.

Thanks for your reaction guys!
Yann: the colour is white, perhaps it looks yellowish because the photo is not so good The size of the fish is about six cm.
It was sold to me as a L173, but when I looked it up in Aqua-log....it didn't looked the same.
( btw: sorry I didn't introduce myself first...I will later this evening )
Jools...perhaps you can look it up later?

I admit I'm no expert on Hypancistrus, but the Cat-eLog pics do not have an L333 with the same tail fin shape nor does your fish seem to have the stubby body shape. What about L340?

Re: Does anyone have an idea what kind of Hypancistrus I have?
Yours look similar to mine when younger. I'm guessing it could be a L399 or L400. I also bought mine as a L173 1 1/2 years ago. See this post of mine. http://planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopi ... &sk=t&sd=a

Re: Does anyone have an idea what kind of Hypancistrus I have?
It really looks a lot like yours on the second photo Kenneth, mine is slightly darker. The sharp forked tail is similar. Have you ever found more of them?
wayneg...have you ever posted photo's of your king tiger pleco's?

Re: Does anyone have an idea what kind of Hypancistrus I have?
Jacqie,
that was the only one available at that time as 173. I have others that I bought as L340s, L236s, L287s, and I believe they are all probably L399 or L400.

That's probably the problem with the ones that are hard to identify....because what do you do when you want to breed them?

It also resembles a L236 which is an expensive species in the US.

good eye, Larry! I was actually about to write that the fish looked just like one of the 236's in DATZ. It's certainly gorgeous fish - whatever it is!

Re: Does anyone have an idea what kind of Hypancistrus I have?
Again ID these Hypancistrus with pictures aren't always easy!!
I thought it could be L333 because of the colour, and a what seem to be a rather thick caudal pedoncule. at that age and size they are not build as the adult could be
Anyway if the fish is clearly white then yeap could be one L399/ L400 but nothing else
Cheers

From lower xingu outside Belo Monte and can be this one , but the large variation in the pattern among all these types from this area needs to be scientific research to know if it's a species complex of different species, natural hybridization or just a very good explanation for this extremely variation.

Thanks again for your reaction, by now I also think it's an L399. Too bad it's the only one I have ever seen since then.
By the way: nice fish Saul!

Jacqie
