Are Baryancistrus the more fragile Loricariidae????

I would like to know if the Baryancistrus (L-18, L-81, L-177, LDA-33) are the more fragile Loricariidae. This is the loricariidae that gives to me more problems to quarantine, and died a lot.
I import other Loricariidae (Hypancistrus, Panaqolus, Pseudacanthicus, Ancistrus, Hypostomus, Peckoltia, Scobinancistrus, Panaque, Ancistomus, etc.), but they donâ??t give to me many or any problems like Baryancistrus do.

Baryancistrus aren't truely more fragile than the other exotics, rather the state in which they are shipped is worse. They are often overloaded with parasites and haven't been eating for days. Each shipment is different, so it is always hard to say if they are a good batch

The problem is that when I import Baryancistrus (L-18, L-81, L-177, LDA-33) I import the other Loricariidae (Hypancistrus, Panaqolus, Pseudacanthicus, Ancistrus, Hypostomus, Peckoltia, Scobinancistrus, Panaque, Ancistomus, etc.) from the same origin too, and the last ones donâ??t give to me much or any problem. Only the Baryancistrus died a lot.
I would like to have some help.

Just add heater with an 28-30 temp to keep the temperature stable.. I have experience with my shipment of L177 all going to the upper part glass of the tank, aftetr placing a heater they seem to be doing fine. Also add some water conditioner and keep the water very clean

When I first buy any pleco, I immediately begin dosing for internal parasites with Levamisole and do LOTS of water changes. I make sure to keep the water quality very high, since it helps cushion the strenuous trip. When treating with Levamisole, they generally don't eat, so I don't feed them for the first two days. Once the treatment is done, that's when I give 'em some meaty foods and a nice slice of zucchini.

I sincerely think that my problem with Baryancistrus is that I need a different quarantine of the other my imported Loricariidae (Hypancistrus, Panaqolus, Pseudacanthicus, Ancistrus, Hypostomus, Peckoltia, Scobinancistrus, Panaque, Ancistomus, etc.) in spite of all was of the same origin.
What is difficult and the problem until now is to have a god medicine to do god quarantine to Baryancistrus .

Hi,
IÂ´ve heard the rumour, that Baryancistrus sp. are quite cheap, because they are really more delicate to keep and to transport than many other Plecos. So the exporteur and the dealer donÂ´t want to keep them in their tanks for longer periods because of the danger of loss of the animals.
A result is the quite cheap price. WhatÂ´s true on the rumour?

I put 30 fishes in 100litros tank with daily water changes.
Walter the Baryancistrus that survive to the quarantine never became a problem any more. My problem with this fishes is exclusively in the quarantine time, but normally the shippers in the origin countries export them practically when they arrive to them.

my first L-177 had died in the first night in my tank ( no quarantine at the dealer, had bougth the fish at "own risk"), the L-177 I own today live in a community tank without any problems ...

Like I said, I don't have any substantial problem with other generous of Loricariidae (like: Hypancistrus, Panaqolus, Pseudacanthicus, Ancistrus, Hypostomus, Peckoltia, Scobinancistrus, Panaque, Ancistomus, etc.).
I made exactly the same quarantine to Baryancistrus (L-18, L-81, L-177, LDA-33), that I do to the other Loricariidae that I receive at the same time from the same origin. I receive some hundreds of that kind of fishes and I only sell them to other "sellers" when they are OK. I refuse to do like Walter said here that some exporters and dealers do, they don't want to keep Baryancistrus in their tanks for longer periods because of the danger of loss of the animals. Doing like we do helps to reduce the pressure over the nature and prevent the end of the species. That is the only way for us to maintain in the future the species and not only for now like we (the humans) do with other specimens.
The few Baryancistrus that survive don't have any more problem and they became so resistant like the other Loricariidae that don't have any problem. What I want to do is prevent the big lost that we have of Baryancistrus in the quarantine time.

we've been importing fishes for quite a long time now. I admit nuggets, L191, L260, and L47 are for me the hardest plecs to quarantine.. We use a 125liter tank per sp. which are around 15-25pcs. I just use heater with a 32c temp. add some desolved salt to prevent infection and add water conditioners and some antibiotics.. So far, the whole year last year and this year we didnt had any prob, except for L191..
