when to start feeding spirulina/wafers to common BN fry?

Post by cristi_ionescu_79 »

Hi,

My common BN fry are 5 weeks old. May I start feeding them SERA spirulina and Hikari algae wafers? Until now they received only vegetable

Thank you,

Sure, as long as you keep feeding vegetables too - I have fed mine with the occasional algae wafer at much earlier than 5 weeks with no apparent ill effects - the real problem with algae wafers is that they are rich in protein, so if you don't feed the right amount, the deterioration of the algae wafer will cause more ammonia production than a bit of vegetable, and you really need to have food readily available 24/7 for young bristlenoses [just like human babies need feeding more frequently than adults - a newborn will require feeding 6-8 times per day, including during the night, whilst when we grow up, most of us don't need to get up and eat during the night].
