Has anyone heard of Loricaria Cameleon?

Post by Vampire007 »

I just got back from collecting in Peru and I am having them shipped back next week. The exporter said that this was what they were called there but he didn't know the scientific name. The males and females were totally different. He told me the whiter ones were the males and the black ones were the females. I can't post pics but if I can email them to someone I will. I took some great pics while they were in the tanks at the exporters.

Thanks!

Loricaria Cameleon is certainly not a valid species (according to Fishbase), nor is it a synonym for any valid species.

However, I can believe that the fish you describe exists, since there are SO MANY species that haven't been described scientifically yet, and some have probably not even been given an L-number yet.

As the search for "the next Hypancistrus Zebra" goes on, there will be new discoveries in the Loricaridae section.

Could you possibly direct me to someone I can work with to obtain this species?

They are on one of our importers lists, can order them this week... but I think not, if I remember correctly, they were quite expensive. Will check the pricetag on them tomorrow when I get to work. I can order some for you, if you come by here in Sweden to pick them up, shall we say, early next week? :D

Sounds like a plan :P. Also, futurama is indeed a great show. Have you any idea as to whether or not they are regular imports here in America? I assume the worst, as I have been searching in vain for months.

Hi

I have one of these that I picked up as a 'pleco/black whiptail' in a LFS. If anyone has a group of these and would like this one, let me know...

BTW they are Pseudohemiodon apithanos

P.apithanos is a rather expensive pleco. On my lists it costs about $70 per fish, and thats the price my store has to pay, which means that the price for a regular customer would be at least twice that!

On the import I have from peru the fish would cost me £29 each or about $47 but that is for a box of 30 fish so a total cost of $1410 so not cheap at all. But they will ship .25 box so not too bad.

Nice fish though.

I have nothing to do with the seller BTW.

Be sure also about sizes, they can come in really quite different sizes from 2" right up to about 6".
