catfish are fighting, what to do?

Post by WOGGIES »

I made some posts earlier about some synodontis cats i got last week. I noticed two fo them will fight occassionally (the same two), and today i noticed one of them had a torn dorsal fin (is that the right term?). Is this a big deal, and if so what should i do? And will the fin heal and should do anything to treat it? thanks

The torn fin should heal by itself if you maintain water quality in your tank. It sounds like you may need a bigger tank for the fish. Try rearranging the decor in the tank first to see if this stops the fighting.

And perhaps more hiding places can help...

In german "Nicht schön, aber selten!"... not nice, but rarely!

Normally the fins heal in few days.

Ill try to rearrange the decor today when i do my water change. But, when i first got them, they would "hang out" together, then they started fighting. But, today i noticed, the slightly smaller one that gets beat up (with the torn fit) actually stuck up behind the other one and started a fight with that one. I have a 40 gallon tank for 3 cats. They are all only about 2 inches long.
