diesease, parasite, cancer?? Warning, nasty pics

Post by JackDonkey »

what do you think/know this is? It's a 5" male bristlenose, the common kind... of bristlenose.

I moved my fishtank upstairs and this guy started getting a puffy nose, later I noticed it was also a puffy, well love handles for lack of a better term, and a ridge of "bubbles" parallel his dorsal fin on both sides. About 5-6 days ago I moved him out into his own little 10 gallon and turned the heat up to 80, put in a tiny amount of rid ich cause i didn't have any other medications, then I've just been changing the water a little bit each day.

He probabaly started getting puffy about 3 weeks ago, 5 or 6 days ago he looked like this.

also here's a poor quality where you can kind of see those love handle deals.

today, the puffing seems to have dropped down, but something nasty is happening now.

he does not seem any different in energy, just sick looking, not sick acting. he also eats a whole algae wafer every night.

I'd say that's an internal bacterial infection. They can be quite tricky to treat, as the medication needs to get INTO the fish... It's quite often caused by bad diet (too much meaty food, not enough fibre), but other factors can cause it too.

I'd go down to the LFS and ask for a medicine for "internal bacterial infection" ASAP, assuming the fish is still alive
