Clown Pleco- a good choice?

Post by shazam26 »

Hello everyone, I'm trying to decide on which pleco I would like to purchase, and I was thinking on the clown pleco.
My tank is steady at 78 degrees, ph 7.0 with water that just falls onto the soft side.
My tank has algae but not an overabundance of it- I read that they're not the best algae eaters and they eat other foods. This would be good because I don't have TONS of algae, just enough to snack on and notice. I also wanted something that wouldn't grow TOO large, and as far as I know these plecos only get around 4 inches. Any thoughts?
Oh yes- and on top of good filtration I'm a frequent cleaner, so any extra waste is not a problem.
Anybody have one of these?

I've got three adults and probably 4 fry at the moment.

They are nice, but don't expect to see them very much - at least that's the behaviour of mine.

You should have some WOOD in the tank, as this is a major part of their diet. They will eat vegetables. Never seen them touch algae in any effective way.

Yeah sounds like a good choice. I've got one of these and i have found that he comes out quite alot and even has a go at the large plec at feeding time. Mine does create huge amounts of waste though. Good luck

Mine also comes out when there is very little movement around the tank, so I can see him at least once a day if I stay still for a while.
