Peckoltia snethlageae L141

Post by amergim »

So what's the actual maximum size for this guy?

5.5" like PC says or +25" like Datz says?

Thanks,
Ramon

I've got a document that says 25cm (approx 10"), which is probably where the 25" is a misprint from.

Whether 5.5" is closer or 25cm is closer is up for debate, but I very much doubt that 25" is correct for anything that has been labled Peckoltia (or Ancistomus, as my document says).

Oh.. I mistyped too :) Datz says 25cm (about 10"). That was actually my question. I got 6 this past weekend thinking they would grow to 5.5" and then I checked Datz... man, was I surprised... :)

Some further information:
Fishbase lists 15 cm (6") TL.
CLOFFSCA lists 22 cm (9") TL.

So, it's likely that this fish grows to a bit larger than the average peckoltia species, perhaps around 8" SL.

Thanks for the info. I may have to find them a new home in the future. For now, they are just between 2"-3"

Do you have any other info? I haven't been able to find much info specific to this species. Do they come from fast water?

Thanks,
Ramon

Ramon,

I don't know much about them. I'd say they are similar to and those, rather than the for example.

I haven't kept any of the former type, but I have one of the latter... Not that that's any help, really...

Mats,

Thanks for the info. If they are any similar to the sabaji, it looks like the L141 could do ok in a 40G with current. I may just try that and see how they do. I can always put them back in their current tank, even though it's a bit crowded with piebald ancistrus.

There's plenty wood in that 40G and it has sand and small gravel. I also have a few rounded rocks I can put in there. I'll let you know how they do and maybe I'll keep a diary or something with their progress.

Thanks again,
Ramon
