I know that fish, and especially wild imported plecos are very expensive. Aren't there more attractive fish than this one for much less? I am not sure which one this is but it looks a lot like L075, Para pleco. If that is what it is, it gets too large for a 10 gallon tank. I think they grow to 6 or 8 inches TL, so a 75 gallon would be closer to meeting it's spatial requirements. Otocinclus or Paraotocinclus species would be better candidates for a 10 gallon breeding project and some of them even come with spots, too.
I think they are affordable even at 'down under' 'over-the-top prices'. I really feel for you. When you take into consideration that losing some fish is always part of keeping fish it would be hard to keep up one's enthusiasm to pay a couple hundred dollars and then lose one or two.
