Re: Ken's Fish Feed - Experiences?
I've been feeding Kens stuff for more years than I can remember. I have been paying attention to the ingredients more so over the past few years though. Because I'm lazy, flake/pellet food is my daily feeding, and because I'm cheap Ken's is what they get. That's not to say it's the only thing I feed ...

Re: Panda-ish Corydoras, but which one?
My including CW051 shows how little I know of corys. :YMSIGH: Look like "low quality" white panda mutation of pandas... low quality in terms that the natural colour bleeds in rather than showing true white. This was my thoughts as well. Based only on those two photos, I don't think they're leucistic ...

Panda-ish Corydoras, but which one?
LFS had some tiny corys that they had labeled as "Albino panda Cory cat". Stopped in and they are obviously not albino, but leucistic as expected. I picked up 12+ while trading in some other plecos. When viewing them close up and in pictures once at home they don't appear to be as white as I thought ...

Re: Is this L471 Pleco
Don't think a picture of the mouth would help in this case. Fish definitely look to be Hypancistrus, the question is are they Contradens, L201, or L471. If I had to guess by that picture, and the descriptions on this site, I would say Hypancistrus contradens About 8 years ago I purchased what I was ...

Re: How many of you leave fry with daddy?
I also would rather have the males do all the work. I'll usually give a new L# or male a few tries at raising fry without getting involved. If things don't work out I'll start pulling the fry or eggs depending on how far along the male keeps up his end. It also depends on the tank and the fish. If ...

Re: L204 breeding project
Looks good, like Eric said though, wood over the caves and maybe less lighting. You can never have enough wood with these guys. Mine love bamboo caves but they destroy them pretty fast so I don't even bother any more. They also enjoy Alder bark if you're looking for variety. How often are you having ...

Re: Travel neglect is a true aphrodisiac
Sorry, maybe I used the wrong terminology. Was asking if you had any wrigglers in baskets while you were gone, and if so how did you handle them? I almost always have something (L333, L201, BNs, Sterbai...) in baskets/boxes/traps. I keep wood, snails, shrimp, floating plants, and catappa leaves in ...

Re: Small fish that snack on snails
I have the same experience as stuby. All but one of my tanks are bare bottom so it's become easier for me to control pond snails in those tanks than dealing with assassin snails. My one tank with substrate is majorly overrun with assassins, which I refer to as zombie snails due to the fact that they ...

Re: L377 Egg sacks not being consumed ??
In my experience it is a water quality issue. My L333 tank has wood, Indian Almond Leaves, and plenty of filtration. I also do, what I would consider, sufficient water changes, however, if I don't use about 1/3 RO water I have the same issue with fry not consuming their sacks. Not sure why, but this ...

Depending on your feeding habits, jac has a point. I feed a very wide variety of foods to all my Pleco groups. Never had issues with BN in any of my Hypancistrus or Peckoltia breeding tanks.

No problem, I keep young BN in all of my breeder setups. Just know that BN grow quickly and that once they're mature they will start competing for caves.

I use one of the Marina hang-on traps that circulate tank water thought them... When I began with bristlenose I used to siphon them out using an airline. This worked great. So when I started spawning zebras, I figured of course it would work with them too. Wrong. Bristlenose shoot out the other end ...

Ideally you would buy from multiple sources. My original group came from 5 different people/stores. I kept 10 in a 55g which is a 4 square foot footprint. 20g long is 2.5 sq foot footprint so I would think you should be okay as long as you provide plenty of caves and the usual. I spent 3 years of ...

Super Red male and an albino female. All offspring are standard color short fin.
Female was pulled from my BN breeder tank which has a mixture of short and long fin standard and albinos. Even had some 2nd gen (of mine) long fin green dragons in the tank a while back.
