Hi Mat,
I was surprised to learn that bullheads are not native to Montana. Only the stonecat, which I believe is probably Noturus flavus, and the channel cat, Ictalurus punctatus are native to our state. According to Montana FWP the state records for these are 10" for the stonecat and 38.75 for the ...

Heater suggestions?
My wife and I plan to build a 150 to 180 gallon tank some time this spring or summer. If I can get away with it, I would like to eliminate in-tank heaters, to prevent heater burns on some of the talking cats which insist on hiding behind them. Could I maybe build a sump type filter and put the ...

I have to say I agree with M@rs on the pepper cories. They are hardy and much less shy than most catfish. When little Johnny gets his first aquarium for Christmas from his grandparents, (usually a 10 gal.) just put a few white clouds and pepper cories in it and he will be hooked on fish for life ...

Uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) meant for computers are quite reasonable nowadays... I would imagine the heater would be the biggest amp draw. If you bought one for the pump & light and one for the heater, you should be able to get by without electricity for a couple of days. The worst part would ...

That's a good point about loaches being so greedy, and a good idea concerning the sweet potato strip. Maybe if you put it in a small water bottle first, it might be a neater cleanup. As far as safe snail-eating fish, our Anadorus Grypus eats a few snails. I suspect the Hancocks and Chocolate Raphael ...

I can't help it, I just think the Pepper Cory is my favorite. If you take good care of them, the iridescent colors come out. Just because they are common and cheap doesn't mean they aren't worth considering. They are so friendly, one of them has even adopted my Anadoras Grypus. Talk about the Odd ...
