Re: Two New Fish TV Shows
Just watched the video on Tanked's front page...it was ok, if it was on tv here I would watch it simply because of the subject matter. Australia tends to get the "bottom of the barrel" American reality shows, I guess they're cheaper for the networks to purchase. Not that the Aussie reality shows are ...

Re: C. panda & C. diphyes HYBRIDS!
Wish I could get better pics of them! There's young of both species in the tank and these new ones look really different. I'm going to separate the adults next week, should be able to take a half decent picture. I'm going to think twice about having mixed-species Corydoras stock tanks now. Is it ...

Re: C. panda & C. diphyes HYBRIDS!
Managed to get a photo that shows the main markings...trying to get better pics. There's three of them and the young C. pandas and C. diphyes the same size look totally different. http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/281371_10150260774103685_579028684_7477511_7791266_n.jpg Let me know what ...

C. panda & C. diphyes HYBRIDS!
I'm positive these are hybrids, there's only the 2 species in the tank. Both are breeding all the time and I've just noticed half grown fish with a stripey C. diphyes tail some speckling on the body and the dark mask and tail blotch of C. panda. Trying to get a decent picture.

Yes. I believe the breeder was able to produce only 8 after years of trying. Still, a pretty amazing achievement. The same breeder produces fairly large batches of Platydoras armulatus on a regular basis.they don't breed like rabits

Locally bred specimens were available from Australia's largest wholesaler recently. They were $55 each, in the shops they will probably be around $140-$170.

Definently P. rendahli . Nice specimen :d Aussies moan that they aren't allowed to keep all kinds of imported fishes, but nobody else in the world can get hold of these! Very true, native fish seem to be among the worst sellers at aquarium shops in Australia. I'm a member of ANGFA, pretty sad to see ...

Re: Controlling pH - adding calcium...
Most of the fish I keep will prefer soft, slightly acidic water as well, but they will also appreciate stability, and that's what my tanks don't have at the moment. The pH stabalises far too low (my test kit goes down to 5.5 and it's lower then that), and with every waterchange it goes up and down ...

Re: Controlling pH - adding calcium...
The water is extremely soft, registers nothing on the liquid test kits I have for GH and KH. I don't have a TDS meter but I've been meaning to take a sample into work and test TDS there. It comes out of the tap with an alkaline pH due to the chloramine added by the water company, but this drops very ...

Re: Controlling pH - adding calcium...
I thought Baking Soda would raise pH but not buffer alkalinity? I've got plenty of PH Up, which is essentially just Baking Soda, but I didn't want to use it for fear of pH crash. Anyway, I've added a small amount of coral gravel to the substrate and the pH has raised from 6 to 7. Quicker then I ...

Controlling pH - adding calcium...
Tapwater in the area I've recently moved to is rainwater, it comes out of the tap 7.5+ due to the addition of alkaline chloromine, but after only hours in a tank with driftwood, fish waste, nitrogen etc it will crash to lower then my liquid test kits can read, around 5.5ish. I'm not a huge fan of ...

2. I do not know where both of you bring in this smuggling, illegal import issues. I do not support this at all. 3. These Ls are already in Australia. Because they were smuggled in. L's have been imported quasi-legally. Accidently would probably be a better word...the responsibility lies with AQIS ...

Re: L- List Availability in Australia
Well...feeling somewhat guilty my joke got out of hand. Bigbird, I was using L091 Leporancanthicus triactus as an example of a fish on the list I'd like to keep, but I've only seen them for sale 2 or 3 times in Australia (in 20 years), so they're a good example for lack of availability. I thought ...

Re: L- List Availability in Australia
Without trying to be negative..."availability" is probably the wrong term for lists of this kind. If a fish has been sold sold in Australia once or twice then it's not really available is it? Searching any of the Aus aquarium classifieds (plecoplanet, Boronia, SydneyCichlid, Perth, and planetcatfish ...

If they're still young they might colour up a fair bit. Looking at the Araguaia and Tapajos Orange Head side by side there's quite a contrast, especially in full breeding colour. Mine look bright copper on the body with a pale orange head while my friend's Tapajos have a bright orange head, almost ...

Re: Breeding Geophagus.
Yes, same fish I think. A friend of mine has G. "Tapajos Orange Head" and they seem to get far more colour on the head than the "Araguaia Orange Head" I have. That pic looks almost identical to the sub-dominant member of the group, the larger males are much more colourful, especially when breeding ...

Cool :d Satanoperca leucostica grow larger then G. sp. "Orange Head" so the tank size should be good. I was mostly worried about the tank being big enough for breeding. Breeding Geophagus.
I have 5 "Araguaia Orange Head" Geophagus, adults, they're a fairly small species, the largest is around 16-18cm. They've been raised in a 500ltr community tank and now that they've started breeding I'd like to set them up so I can keep some fry. I'm going to transfer them to a 4x18x18, 240ltr tank ...

Just wondering what temperature you keep the tanks on? I noticed you had Lnos and Cories in together, I've always avoided this because I thought the temps they both require were incompatible...how does it work for you?

Thanks Marc :D I'm really glad the others are compatible as I really want Hoplos and/or Dianema cats. I understand the ornatus, Pterygoplichthys and Flagtails will get quite large. I'm not really sold on the idea of Flagtails anyway, large, migratory, schooling fish are probably wrong for the ...
