Re: Royal pl*co close ups
Here's a couple of "out-takes" from the same photo shoot: I don't know if I like the way the flashes glared off the odontodes or not. http://www.cichlidforums.com/seedy/oct08/DSC_0408.jpg Notice all the "toothpicks" that used to be tree branches in the foreground of this pic: http://www ...

Re: Royal pl*co close ups
Thanks Folks! I was quite pleased with the eye shot myself, although the original shot of the mouth was a bit under exposed (hence the levels adjustment). Unfortunately the lens and flash were borrowed gear and I had to give them back before trying for that "perfect" image. It did also help that ...

Re: 2 meter Orinoco basin tank setting up...
Great stuff! Now we need to get you a couple or four off camera remote flashes so you can take some full tank shots without the glare! It looks so impressive, yet I just don't think the full tank shots do it justice.

Royal Pleco close ups
Here's some macro shots of the wife's big Royal Pleco ( Panaque nigrolineatus ) Nikon D40x w/105mm micro/macro and optically triggered SB-800 flash held in one hand...the camera in the other (and yes that SOB is heavy with that big lens on it!) Eye: ISO-100, F/45, 1/80sec (yes that's forty-five, not ...

Kostas, I am so glad to finally see this tank filled and cycled! Any pics of the new Panaque yet? Are you moving over any of your current fish into this tank? The gap with the spraybars for planting is really quite nice, I wasn't so sure of it when I 1st saw it, but now I understand  Is it ...

Re: Mopani Driftwood?
Of all the North American trees limbs I have fed to my Panaque species, they seem to like willow and the fruit/nut trees the best (apple, pecan). I believe in another thread similar to this it was pointed out that conifers can be toxic, however once they have been in a river for a few years ...

Re: 3 foot 45 gallon "Spring Creek, OK"
Thanks, it would be great if they did spawn, but I'm pretty sure the crays would get the eggs . I also looks like I have at least 1 or two Luxilus cardinalis that I had mis-ID'd as Notropis boops...

Birger...you are more than likely correct.
However, here in Oklahoma we are not allowed to have "Apple Snails" (on the restricted list) so these MUST be a "Mystery Snail"

Re: Yikes! Interopercular Spines...PURE 666
What is his name? Good question! My 1st P. nigrolineatus ( ended up getting taken by an ex-girlfriend when we split up) was named "Natas"...as in "Satan", backwards. I'd kinda like to call this guy that, but this one is my Wife's fish and it would be weird to call it the same thing I called a fish ...

he is amazing! A real beauty of a fish! You should be proud! What size tank? What food does he eat? Who are his co habitants? He eats a lot of wood! Everything from Molpani and Malaysian to local willow, maple, pecan and oak. Big piles of sawdust-poo... I also give him potato and other veggies ...

Re: Yikes! Interopercular Spines...PURE 666
Thanks for all the comments. I've been trying to get lucky and get a picture of him "flexing" his spines since I got him...I finnally got lucky! Oddly enough, he won't flare them at my hand or at the python when I'm sucking up "sawdust". It is usually about as quick as a yawn although I'm sure if he ...

Re: 2 meter Orinoco basin tank setting up...
Kostas, If I remember correctly, this tank is for your Panaque's, correct? I would not expect ANY thing to last too long on any surface in that tank. Consider how quickly they will shred that silicone over the pipe. I'm not sure your plant material will even have time to rot. Another concern, what ...

Re: 3 foot 45 gallon "Spring Creek, OK"
Thanks! The Crayfish have completely rearranged the plants to their liking, and have eaten some of them as well! This spring I'll collect a few more plants as food and as an entry point for more aquatic diversity in the tank (hopefully I will get some interesting "hitchhikers"). The Darters and all ...

After the recent power outage we had due to an Ice Storm, we did a major water change and "search" to make sure everything survived. Despite 2 and a half days of no filtration/heat before we acquired a generator we have had no losses in this tank. Stocking list is the same as when 1st posted. Here's ...
