From what I understand, Clown Loaches (which I particularly like anyway, except I find them susceptible to ick) will eat snails when they get big enough. I have no idea if other "common" tropical fish will do the same ... anyone know?

In the future do not use a net. It is much easier to move any pl*co over two inches by just grabbing it He panics if he sees me in the room, let alone if I would try to grab him ... I would be far too aftaid that a wet slippery pleco would flail right out of my small hands and across the floor! I ...

Terraced Aquariums
Hi! Just setting up my new 100 gallon (yay!) and considering doing a terraced effect ... ie for the frontal area maybe half an inch of substrate, and then thicker areas - up to three inches- of sand or gravel to allow plants to take hold. Any ideas on what is the best way to do this, or if it is ...

I guess it's about time I said Hi to everyone!
Hello! Just wanted to introduce myself - I'm a graduate student in Biochemistry at McGill in Montreal, Canada (the chic-est place around, if you ask me) BUT I'm originally from Newfoundland, so I've got eastern Canada pretty much represented. :) Et je parle francais assez bien, s'il y a quel qu'un d ...

Thanks, Silurus! (by the way, I think I have only asked like 3 questions here, and I'm sure you have always answered! I super-super appreciate it! The web site is great, but it's the knowledgeable people that make it so useful) I've cut the net and left him only with a small peice. He flailed a bit ...

Help! I have a stuck pleco!
I have a large (~10") common pleco that I'm trying to transport to his new 100 gallon tank. I netted him to move him to a bucket (add new water to bucket, wait, repeat, etc, then add him to new tank ... ) But he's managed to get himself stuck on the net in his mouth-sucker region. First I thought he ...

Can you ID my new Pleco?
Hey - inherited these two in a 70 gallon tank I was purchasing from a classified add. They had been pretty neglected (the guy said he hadn't added food to the tank in 6 months, no filter, no heater, etc etc etc) but at least the tank was planted so I guess that's what they survived on ... They are ...

Well than I am in luck :S The dorsal fin of this guy does not have the deeply concave pattern seen in the above pic, so it seems Labeo chrysophekadion is the right answer, and some google searches have suggested this guy is commercially available. Once again, thanks to all of you for your help. Does ...

Yes, all of those pics look exactly like him. I'm not sure how you guys are able to tell the difference! Congratulations! Hmmm this leaves me with a real problem. How big a tank do I need to keep a 45-60 cm fish like this? We have plans next year to invest in a BIG tank, but how big do I need to go ...

Can you help me ID my mystery Catfish?
Went to buy some black Molly's at the pet store, and they had this guy in the tank with them. The clerk told me he was a "black shark", that he would live happily with my molly's, that he would live happily as the only one of his species in the tank, that he was at his max size, and that he was a ...
