I was offered them as L236's but the thing that put a doubt in mind was I have read that very few L236's are imported into Europe and that a lot of L236's are in fact L399/L400's

They help prevent limescale build up on appliances that use water eg washing machines and central heating boilers. They do work but are not 100 % effective
